This 5 day hands-workshop introduces the powerful customisation and data handling features built into all versions of ExtendSim. The workshop is divided into two modules - 2 days for ExtendSim Databases and Data Management and 3 days for Programming in ExtendSim. Although these Advanced modules can be taken as separate courses, we suggest that both are of interest to modellers attempting professional simulation projects of any complexity.
ExtendSim Databases and Data ManagementThe integrated simulation database feature is unique to ExtendSim. It is an extremely powerful tool for managing data in complex models, easily updating data inputs, and quickly performing simulation experiments. This 2 day course demonstrates how to store, retrieve, and manage data in ExtendSim.
Explore ExtendSim's extensive data exchange, storage, and management capabilities while learning about:
» Data management methods
» Internal data storage techniques
» Dynamic linking between an ExtendSim database and data
» Establishing Parent/Child relationships
» Basic to advanced blocks for data management
» Blocks for data exchange
» User interfaces for data exchange
» Using the Excel Add-In for ExtendSim databases
The focus is on creating and using internal ExtendSim databases, but other data exchange and storage capabilities will also be discussed.
Programming in ExtendSimCreate custom components in the ExtendSim development environment plus learn how to maximize usage of the equation blocks. ExtendSim provides both an internal programming language (ModL) and dialog editor. These two integrated features allow you to create custom modules and capabilities for ExtendSim, including accessing code written in external languages.
This 3 day module covers the common uses and features of the ExtendSim programming language (ModL), as well as the mechanics of block creation. This module, includes:
» ModL structure, system variables, and global variables
» Creating a custom block, with icon, connectors, tabbed dialog, and Help text
» Using common predefined functions
» Understanding messages and message handlers
» Working with event posting code
» Adding animation to block dialogs, block icons, and hierarchical blocks
» Interacting with dialog items and database tables
» Tips for enhancing block dialogs and capabilities
» Problem solving using the Source Code Debugger
During the second module attendees will start by building an ExtendSim block and storing it in a library. The development environment will be progressively studied as new features are added to the block. This module, provides sufficient knowledge to create custom components and features in ExtendSim.
This course is designed for Engineers, Managers, System Analysts, and anyone who wants to learn how to manage simulation data and customise ExtendSim.

Following will be required* for the on-site training from Client's organization
• Suitable Training Room
• Data Projector with a Daylight Screen
• White Board
• Suitable Desk Space for Instructor
• Sufficient Desk Space for Participants to view course notes and their computer screen
• All Participants need to be able to view the screen and whiteboard without having to turn their heads more than 45 degrees from the computer screens
• Refreshments - at the minimum Water and Tea/Coffee
• Access to the Training Room 24 hour prior to commencement of training for room set-up
• Security for the Training Room from the Room Set-up until End-of-Training
